McLean Road is a very short street in North Billerica running east from Fayerweather Street near High Street. It was laid out as Highland Avenue on a "Plan of Land owned by Michael H. McElligott, et al. on High and Pollard Streets, North Billerica, Mass.," drawn by Edward D. Chapman, civil engineer and surveyor, in May 1913 and recorded the same year in Plan Book 31 Plan 4. On that plan Highland Avenue is a forty-foot cross street joining Fairview Street (now Fayerweather Street) and Prospect Street, with four lots of 6,000 square feet on one side and three on the other. The directories of 1919 and 1931 list "Highland Avenue from Fairview n High easterly." Today only a short stretch of it is open as a street.
Highland Avenue was never accepted by the town: it is not in the town's 1956 list of accepted streets, and no later acceptance vote has been found. The name McLean Road dates from the selectmen's program of 1988 to 1991 to rid the town of duplicate street names. The renamings printed in the 1988 town report do not include it, so the change was made in 1989 or 1990, when the lists were no longer printed. Registry records of 1999 to 2002 describe the corner lots, lots 23 to 25 of the 1913 plan, as "situated on the Southerly side of Highland Avenue and the Easterly side of Fairview Street," and show that a family named McLean owned them then; the street probably took their name, though no record of the committee says so.
McLean Road was repaved in 2005. It is not one of the roads of the 1831 town map accepted in 2016, and it came too late for the street lists of 1897 and 1899.
